Pierre MONSAN

Dr. Pierre F. Monsan is professor emeritus of INSA Toulouse (University of Toulouse, France) and professor at the École des Mines (ParisTech, France) in charge of the Department of Biotechnology. He is a Senior Member of the Institut Universitaire de France since 2003. He is a founding member of the French Academy of Technologies (2000).
P. Monsan is the Executive Director of the preindustrial demonstrator TWB (Toulouse White Biotechnology) (UMS INRA / INSA / CNRS) since 2012. He was involved in 1984 as co-founder of one of the very first French biotech start-up companies, BioEurope. He was also involved in the creation of BioTrade (environmental processes, 1996), Génibio (nutritional ingredients, 1998) and the setup of LibraGen in Toulouse (metagenomics, 2004). He acts as a consultant for several French and international companies in agribusiness, cosmetics and pharmacy.
P. Monsan is a member of the Executive Board of the European Federation of Biotechnology and Vice-President of the French Federation of Biotechnology. He is the French representative at the Board of the International Carbohydrate Organization and member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the ERA-NET Industrial Biotechnology.
His research area is the enzymatic catalysis and molecular engineering. He is the author of over 220 scientific publications, two books and 61 patents.
