Tom VAN AKEN

Tom van Aken (1970) was appointed as CEO of Avantium in November 2005.
Education:
Tom van Aken holds a Master’s Degree in Chemistry from the Utrecht University.
Working experience:
DSM:
He previously worked at DSM, from 1996 till 2002. At DSM he held various sales and business development positions, primarily in DSM’s fine chemical and biotech businesses in the USA and Europe.

Avantium:
In 2002 he joined Avantium as Vice-President of Business Development. He was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Avantium in 2005. Under Tom’s supervision the company has focused on its cleantech and chemical business, by divestment of its pharmaceutical activities and by the development and commercialization of the YXY technology for the production of FDCA and PEF, a 100% bio-based polyester.
